DomainKeys Identified Mail (DKIM) is an authentication system used to verify that an e-mail message has been sent by an authorized server or person. An e-signature is added to the email message’s header using a private key. When the email is received, a public key that’s available in the global Domain Name System is used to check who exactly sent it and whether its content has been changed in any way. The prime job of DomainKeys Identified Mail is to impede the widely spread scam and spam messages, as it makes it impossible to fake an email address. If a message is sent from an address claiming to belong to your bank or financial institution, for instance, but the signature does not match, you will either not receive the email message at all, or you’ll get it with an alert that most probably it is not authentic. It depends on mail service providers what exactly will happen with an email which fails to pass the signature test. DKIM will also provide you with an extra security layer when you communicate with your business allies, for instance, since they can see for themselves that all the e-mails that you send are genuine and haven’t been manipulated in the meantime.

DomainKeys Identified Mail in Shared Website Hosting

If you host a domain name in a shared website hosting account with us, all the needed records for using the DomainKeys Identified Mail feature will be created by default. This will happen the moment you add the domain in the Hosted Domains section of the Hepsia hosting Control Panel, provided that the domain also uses our NS records. A private encryption key will be generated on our email servers, while a public key will be published to the global DNS database automatically by using the TXT resource record. In this way, you won’t need to do anything manually and you will be able to take full advantage of all the benefits of this validation system – your emails will be sent to any target audience without being rejected and nobody will be able to send out email messages faking your email addresses. The latter is very important in case the nature of your online presence suggests sending periodic offers or newsletters via email to potential and existing clients.

DomainKeys Identified Mail in Semi-dedicated Hosting

Our Linux semi-dedicated hosting come with DKIM activated by default, so if you choose a semi-dedicated server package and you add a domain name using our name servers through your Hepsia Control Panel, the records needed for the validation system will be created automatically – a private cryptographic key on our mail servers for the digital signature and a TXT resource record carrying the public key for the Domain Name System. As the DKIM protection is set up for a certain domain, all addresses created with it will carry a signature, so you won’t need to worry that the email messages that you send may not reach their target email address or that someone may forge any of your email addresses and try to scam/spam people. This may be really important if you use email communication in your business, since your partners and/or customers will be able to distinguish genuine messages from spoofed ones.
